you've contracted american dreams

NP: nothing. Though I keep replaying bits of Roger Waters' "Amused to Death" in my head.

So Bush didn't waste any time lobbing missiles at Baghdad, did he? I like how in his "we're coming to bomb you, suckers" speech last night, he kept stressing this "35 nation coalition" he has going. How many other countries are there in the world? How many countries and their people are against this whole war business? A lot. But we don't care about that. We don't care about the United Nations, we don't care about diplomacy, or our place in the world, or international law.

Watching war coverage on TV is like watching porn. I can't decide what's worst -- the gratutitous footage of bombs exploding over cities, or the whole fetishistic descriptions of military equipment (tanks, missiles, aircraft, etc). It's sickening.

Heh, Dan Rather just sprayed some spit out of the corner of his mouth while giving some report or another. Rock. Dan Rather is so weird.

This cat is so needy. I'm trying to use the computer, and she keeps jumping up on me and sitting on my hands. Not only is it annoying, but it's getting hair all over me.

Idlewild show last night was great. After we finally found the venue (the website gave one address, and the tickets gave a different one), we discovered it was a tiny, drafty, kind of dodgy bar just off the main downtown bit of Columbia. Excellent beer selection (fairly cheap pints of Tennents was my choice for the evening), band members sitting around everywhere, and equipment piled up everywhere. There turned out to be two opening acts, the first being some local proto-emo (Erin's words) band. Mostly crap but they had an entertaining keyboard player who should totally be playing the organ at Busch Stadium. The second band was French Kicks, who were pretty good in that New York garage sort of way that I normally don't much go for. Idlewild were excellent. We were in the front row of people, like three feet from Roddy Woomble (still the best name ever). The mix was sort of off -- vocals were very low in the mix, but the whole musical effect was thunderous. Great setlist:

Little Discourage
You Held the World In Your Arms
I'm A Message
I Am What I am Not
Tell Me Ten Words
These Wooden Ideas
A Modern Way of Letting Go
American English
Century After Century
When I Argue I See Shapes
Rusty
Live in a Hiding Place
A Film for the Future
Roseability
[encore]
Listen to What You've Got
In Remote Part

Thank the detail of the setlist to the fact that Erin snagged Woomble's actual setlist. He stomped on it and everything. So yeah, great show, great time.

I'm already up and showered, waiting for Ryan S to come by so we can go grab some lunch. The alarm clock woke me up out of a dream, which always leaves me in a very strange state. It's like I'm on a different wavelength than the rest of the planet. I'm sure it'll sort itself out, though.

Now it's time to go eat some Chinese food. Later gators.
